Anguished teen to visit pal's grave in bid to aid recovery
- X is to visit the grave of her best friend for the first time, a year
after the pair hatched a tragic suicide pact. The teenager, from
Longbridge, Birmingham, and Laura Rhodes, from Neath, overdosed on
painkillers after being bullied about their weight. An inquest also
found the girls were devoted to each other and did not want to be
parted. Laura, 13, of Cimla, died but her friend later recovered in
hospital after downing a cocktail of pills. Yet a year after the tragedy
happened, the 15-year-old remains in a Midlands secure unit, where she
still refuses to accept Laura's death. The girl, who cannot be named for
legal reasons, has already made at least three more suicide attempts,
and has also been diagnosed with autism. By IC Wales

Logan left a powerful message to the community
- When Logan Mitcheltree was discovered missing Saturday afternoon, the
South Williamsport community and its neighbors joined together in a mission
- to find Logan alive. Hundreds of volunteers combed Logan’s neighborhood,
the municipality and the hills surrounding it. In an age when we worry
about prejudices toward people based on race, religion and handicaps,
Logan’s autism did nothing to mute the effort of volunteers, police, fire
and other emergency personnel. They searched everywhere for Logan on what
may turn out to be among the three most bitterly cold days and nights of the
next three months. When Logan’s lifeless body was found Tuesday, there was a
collective feeling of anguish, frustration, failure and sadness. All
those emotions make sense. But during times of grief, when we all ask why
something so tragic happens, it is helpful to look at the positive message
beneath the surface, even if that message doesn’t entirely answer the
question, byThe

Gaydos has filed a civil suit to be heard in November against Cupertino
Union School District, for unspecified damages. Neither district officials
nor the teacher, Karen Miller, would discuss the allegations. But in court
filings, both parties deny them by Larry Slonaker
